About the late Lily Tembo.

Lily Tembo born on November 20, 1981 was professionally known as Lily T. She was a Zambian musician, radio presenter, journalist and charity worker.

Lily was raised in Kabwe, Zambia and she grew up in a music-loving family. She was inspired by her father, who played the bongo as well as her sisters and mother, who sung in church. She attended secondary school at the Kabulonga Girls in Lusaka. Later on, she pursued a career in journalism at Evelyn Hone College.

Lily emerged onto the Zambian music scene in 2004 with the album Mvela which started her career and brought her national attention. The album earned her national acclaim and was produced by Peter Whiteson Watema.

The Mvela album included songs such as Mwana, Osa Yesa and three times a day. She released her second album Chikwati in 2006. Chikwati was recorded at Kula music studio under the auspices of Elijah Tembo; it featured the hit singles Mvela and Osalila. In 2007 she won two Ngoma awards namely Best female recording artist and Best music video. She was also a news reader for 5 FM radio, a station based in Lusaka.

In 2006 She was recognized by BBC Africa as a promising African celebrity who remained original. She was working on a third album at the time of her death on September 14th 2009. Her song Mvela (moyo siogula) is one of the most covered Zambian songs with over 12 covers that can be found on YouTube.
